Two Types of Creative Retailers and Where They Get Stuck in their Retail Business | Episode 4

I’ve helped hundreds of retail business owners determine their next step in the back-end of their store or brick and mortar.

I’m totally seeing a pattern here, friends.

First, everyone thinks they are alone and the only one dealing with these “issues”.

Not true. Every shop owner I have come across is facing something. Even if our stores look beautiful and our instagram feed is perfectly curated, there are always problems backstage and tough situations to manage. It happens way more than you’d ever realize.

Second, I see two different types of retailers asking for help.

The 1st type of retailer just started their retail business. They usually don’t need help merchandising or with the tasks that come natural, but they are realizing that owning a brick and mortar isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. *Surprise*

They are asking me: Is this normal? What should I be doing? What is the next step?

These retailers really need support from others who have been there.

The 2nd type is a seasoned shopkeeper, who has been open for a few years. They are getting tired doing all the things, they are getting burnout and find themselves winging it. They know they need to narrow it down and set up better systems.

They are asking me: How do I make more profits? How do I figure out my strategic plan? How do I manage my time better? How do I keep up this business and make it sustainable?

These retailers really need more than a pieced-together advice telling them to do more social media. They need serious retail business guidance, direction and implementation.

Listen in to this episode, to evaluate where you’re at in your journey and learn what you can do when you’re totally stuck. The truth of the matter is all retailers, at every stage, need help figuring it out. You are so not alone. Bonus points if you share it with your retailer biz friends!

About your host, Wendy Batten

In case we haven’t met yet, I’m Wendy, a small business coach and founder of the Retailer’s Inner Circle, where I help other independent shop owners learn how to gain the right business skillsets to see more profits, paychecks, and joy as they navigate running their retail business.

Through online classes, business coaching programs, speaking, and a top-ranked podcast, I’ve helped hundreds of retailers around the globe reclaim their dreams and see the success they want from their beautiful shops. My signature private coaching community, The Retailer’s Inner Circle, has helped retailers around the world build their retail business skill sets and confidence.

I am proud to have been featured in several major publications, including my own business column in What Women Create magazine. I have been privileged to be a guest on top-ranked podcasts and sought-after as a guest speaker and teacher for several brands, associations, and communities that are passionate about the success of independent retailers.

When I’m not coaching, you will find me either DIYing and renovating my very imperfect old crooked cottage by the sea in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Lunenburg, NS, or blogging about our travel and RVing adventures and the weird fun things we get up to in our coastal village.
